The DMPR adjusts regulated petrol prices monthly, generally on the first Wednesday. The CEF calculates price indicators daily using international product prices, exchange rates and the applicable domestic cost components.
Petrol retail prices
Petrol pump prices are regulated. The final price combines the Basic Fuel Price with taxes, levies, transport-zone costs and regulated margins.
Diesel wholesale prices
The DMPR publishes a wholesale list price for diesel, but the final retail pump price is not regulated and can differ between suppliers and service stations.

Fuel-price questions
When do South African fuel prices change?
Regulated petrol prices are normally adjusted on the first Wednesday of each month after the DMPR publishes the official adjustment.
Is the diesel pump price regulated?
No. The DMPR publishes an official wholesale list price for diesel, but service-station and supplier retail prices may vary.
Why do inland and coastal prices differ?
Transport and distribution costs are reflected through magisterial district pricing zones, which produces different official prices across regions.
Which price should a business use?
Confirm the product, sulphur grade, effective date and applicable magisterial district zone in the official DMPR Fuel Price Schedule before relying on a price commercially.
